This year, we were invited to attend the Night of 100 Stars Academy Awards viewing party and the Billboard After Party at the Beverly Hilton. Needless to say, it was an entertaining evening with a highlight on the philanthropic efforts of Children Uniting Nations and the Black Eyed Peas. However, Tiff and I chose to depart not too long after the celebrities began to appear — around 10ish. Who else but celebrities can party til the wee hours on a Sunday night?
This year we enjoyed a perfectly portioned three course meal at Maison Akira in Pasadena, followed by snacks and spirits in the comforts of home. There is a touching story that goes along with the gift basket, but that is a tale for another time. Suffice it to say that Tiff is a sweetheart.

Tiff and I were going to be in the area and decided that perhaps this was a nice brunch location. When we arrived, we were completely ignored by staff and the hostess. However, we gave them the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps they were busy. Finally, when enough was enough, Tiff aggressively approached the disappearing hostess who gave us an insulting once over and told us they weren’t taking any more customers. Apparently, they had too large a party. I looked over at the half a dozen patrons and left in disgust. Don’t waste your time here, particularly if you’re not Caucasian. I had read that the food was hit or miss anyway, but apparently they have French snobbery down cold. I will never again set foot in this restaurant and I entreat you to avoid it as well.
What did you eat for Thanksgiving? Something as mundane as turkey? This year, after staving off a viral gastritis, I couldn’t muster enough strength to prepare our traditional rib roast. Instead, I decided upon a quick and easy New England-inspired Thanksgiving.
Yes, your eyes do not deceive you. That lobster was indeed larger than the chicken and it was phenomenal.
