Copy malgun.ttf from Windows Vista to the \windows\fonts directory on your HTC Fuze or Touch Pro.
Add the following registry entry:
[HKLM/Software/Microsoft/FontLink/SystemLink]
Tahoma = \windows\fonts\malgun.ttf,Malgun Gothic
Now you can enjoy Korean fonts in the TouchFLO interface.
To understand why this works, please refer to this previous post.

Eh, ain’t no iphone. n no, it’s not more. orb still doesn’t work! what the heck! It gets to ur server but it doesn’t load any video. oh well.
What if there was already a Tohoma entry for Chinese fonts? Is there anyways I can have both Chinese and Korean?? Thanks
Go ahead and add another entry for Korean fonts.
when I try to add the reg entry to my Fuze, it is denied. Why?
Try using Total Commander (free)or Resco Registry Editor (free trial) to make the registry changes. Or, please refer to my other posting… Windows Mobile 6.1: Changing the System Font & Adding Korean Support.
Tahoma = \windows\malgun.ttf,Malgun Gothic is already in place from Windows Mobile 6.1: Changing the System Font & Adding Korean Support. how do i add another Tahoma = \windows\fonts\malgun.ttf,Malgun Gothic after saving malgun.ttf file into windows/fonts folder?
Hi, Demosthenes
Thank you for your post.
I haven’t got symbian phone(White HTC diamond) yet but I want to make sure one thing before I get it.
If I proceed with your instructions, would I be able to load korean websites and type korean on it?
Hi Mk,
I’m not sure what your question is… do you have a Symbian phone or a HTC Diamond phone? As far as I know, HTC Diamond phones do not run the Symbian OS. My instructions are only for Windows Mobile phones. I cannot speak to the Symbian OS.
Cheers!
Thxs Demosthenes!! It works great. Or at least some pages. That’s what I wanted to ask you. Why are there some pages in which the Korean doesn’t show?? It does show in some Korean pages, but it doesn’t show in others. Can it be because of the type of fonts they used?? Also, do know whay doesn’t the Korean fonts show in the WMP??
Very nice tip foe me, Thank you very much
Demosthenes,
Thanks for your hard work. Generally speaking, there are tons of support for Japanese and Chinese fonts but not so with the Korean fonts. Thank you for doing something about it.
Having said that, I’d like to chime in. I am using the Touch Pro (Sprint, Verizon) with Windows Mobile 6.1. I can also verify that I’ve tried the same (Demosthenes) methods for other WM versions and other phone and they all work.
I’d like to point out that if you follow Demosthenes’ methods, you will be able to read Korean on built in email client (no need to download flexmail), opera, etc… But the catch is that the sender has to send the email encoded in UTF-8. For example, if you are using Gmail, go to settings. You will see that default outgoing mail encoding is NOT set to UTF-8. Change that to UTF-8 and send your self a test email. Voila~! You will be able to read Korean now. Same goes for your MP3 files as well, if they were named under UTF-8 environment you will be able to read them in Korean.
@Demosthenes, I didn’t mean to “step on your toes”. If you felt that my post was ostentatious feel free to remove it. I just wanted to provide some explanation to the people who were a bit confused as to why theirs don’t work.
Hi Joshua,
An excellent explanation! Thanks for your comments. Hopefully, people will read all the comments before posting.
Cheers!
i tried the method but it does not work. can you tell me how to add registry as i think that might be my problem….
Finally i figured out how to edit registry and now i can read emails in Korean. However, i am now able to read Korean mp3’s from the file explorer but not from TouchFLO 3D interface. The same mp3 file will come up all broken. Can anyone help?
Any instruct. for the new Touch Pro 2 ???? thanks
Same instructions as for the Touch Pro. The Touch Pro 2 uses Windows Mobile 6.1.
Ok. I have finally figured it out. For those who want Korean on their TouchFLO on your Diamond, Touch Pro or Touch Pro 2, but couldn’t add the registry on top of the existing Tahoma one from the other page, you should do the following.
[HKLM/Software/Microsoft/FontLink/SystemLink]
Segoe UI = \windows\malgun.ttf,Malgun Gothic
Tahoma = \windows\malgun.ttf,Malgun Gothic;\windows\fonts\malgun.ttf,Malgun Gothic
*Note that there are no quotation marks used anywhere.
[HKLM/System/GDI]
FontLinkMethods = 1
*Use DWord for it.
[HKLM/System/GDI/SYSFNT]
Nm = Segoe UI
[HKLM/System/GDI/V1/FontAlias]
Tahoma = Segoe UI
*FontAlias is under V1.
Essentially, instead of replacing current Tahoma registry, you are adding another one for windows fonts folder by using “;”. Also, you have to make sure you have malgun.ttf in both \windows folder and \windows\fonts folder. In order for you to access to Windows folder, you will have to use Total Commander, not the Explorer that came with the phone. Look for it in Google. Btw, above method works with WinMo 6.5 as well.

I am new to tweaking smartphones. Where is the registery file located, the name of the file? And if I mess up the registery file, what is the best way to recover the system? I thought I find out how to recover from my mistakes before I mess up big time! Thank you.
hi what abt for wm 6.5?
You can use the same registry tweaks for Windows Mobile 6.5. as it is essentially the same as Windows Mobile 6.1 but with a different interface. The real question you should be asking is how will Windows Mobile 7 handle Asian Languages? That, I do not know.
