Tiff and I were driving aimlessly around San Gabriel in search of dinner when we happened across China Bistro. Its parking lot was packed with cars and so we reasoned there was valid explanation for its popularity. We were promptly seated inside; the outside patio was full of smokers. Immediately, Tiff wanted to switch seats with me because the side she had selected was less than pristine. There was residue of the previous meal still apparent on the table. I happily agreed since my tolerance for filth is much higher than hers.
The menus were sticky with the handling of thousands of grubby hands belonging to the generally grubby patrons. As I looked down, I noticed that my fork was adorned with food particles from an earlier meal and I asked for a new one. The replacement was similarly filthy. The third was devoid of organic matter but spots of what could have been either detergent water or a nasty mix of fluid derived from decomposing food stained the utensil.
If we had not already ordered, we would have left. The food was unpalatable. The restaurant and its customers were similar in many ways — apparently clean facades for what was ultimately unsanitary and unrefined. I found the food and milieu thoroughly disgusting.
I love poor patients. They walk into your office complaining that they can’t afford the flu shot or that they can’t afford to pay for their prescriptions. They don’t have the money for this or for that. Yet, they have the newest PDA phones. Their kids are playing on their PSPs or Nintendos. They have LCD or plasma TV’s at home with digital cable or satellite TV with the latest HD broadcasts.
These patients would rather spend their money on things other than their health. Then, they demand that others subsidize their health care costs. Like the parable of the grasshopper and the ants, society inevitably ends up supporting the stupid. However, I don’t feel an iota of pity for these people. You can’t afford the $20 flu vaccine this year, but you can pay your $50 monthly cable bill? Then, suck it up and hope you don’t get too sick. Take responsibility for your own lives. If you think your gadgets and your HDTV are so important, see if you can take them to the grave with you.
I’ve see ladies on Medicare drive up in their luxury SUV’s begging for drug samples. I’ve seen “indigent” and “uninsured” couples deliver at WCH who bank their newborn umbilical cords. Shame on the lot of you. Our system is deteriorating and their is plenty of blame to go around. As we point fingers, let us not forget the “poor” patient. Take enough grasshoppers in and, soon, even the ants won’t have enough to go around.
When I had WM5 installed on my AT&T 8525 (Hermes), I enjoyed the pleasure of sending text messages to email addresses (which, to the recipient, appeared like email). More, I enjoyed receiving email to my text message address from such recipients.
However, when I upgraded to WM6, this feature was apparently disabled. To restore this feature on AT&T WM6 phones, add the following registry values using a registry editor:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Inbox\Settings]
AllowSMStoSMTPConcatenation=1 (DWORD decimal)
AllowSMStoSMTPAddress=1 (DWORD decimal)
SMStoSMTPShortCode=121 (STRING VALUE)

Indeed, some misbegotten soul is masquerading around as having such an email address and spammed you. May I recommend investing in a spam filter until we can rid the world of such useless electronic detritus? Meanwhile, if this persists, I should try and get some ads up here soon!
